Shyness is a common psychological experience that everyone has more or less experienced.Cross-cultural studies have shown that shyness is universal and that the shyness of Chinese teenagers is more common and more severe.Shyness,in the context of Chinese culture,is often considered to be "subtle","restrained" and "humble" performance. But what can not be ignored is that shy individuals,in social occasions, often manifested as shy blush,at a loss, speak whispered, dare not express their views, worried about negative evaluation of their own from others, and anxiety, nervous ideas often shrouded in their minds, which affected the shy individuals' interpersonal level and the quality of life to a certain extent. In this study, the students of a university in Shandong Province were selected as the subjects, and the purpose of the behavioral experiments was to explore whether there were differences in the individuals' executive function of individuals of different shy levels under the audience conditions and its theoretical basis. We used the classic Stroop paradigm in Experiment 1,the main purpose of the study is to explore the difference between shy individuals and no-shy individuals in inhibition function under the conditions of the audience, using 2(shyness,no-shyness)×2(with audience conditions,no audience conditions)between groups design of two factors. Both the shyness level and the audience condition are intergroup variables, and the dependent variable is the Stroop effect. In Experiment 2,we used the n-back experimental paradigm to examine whether there are differences in the individual refresh function between shy individuals and no-shy individuals under the conditions of the audience, using 2(shyness,no-shyness)× 2(with audience conditions,no audience conditions)×2(task difficulty 1,3)mixed experiment design,in which shyness level is the intergroup variable, the audience condition is the intergroup variable, the task difficulty is within group variable, the dependent variable is the reaction time and the correct rate of the refresh task.In Experiment 3,we used the More-odding Shiftingtask to examine the differences in individual conversion abilities between the shy individuals and no-shy individuals under the audience condition, using 2(shyness,no-shyness)× 2(with audience conditions,no audience conditions)between groups design,Both the shyness level and the audience condition are intergroup variables, and the dependent variable is the conversion reaction time. The results showed that:(1)Under the condition of audience, the Stroop effect of shy individuals was significantly lower than that of no-shy individuals;(2)In the case of audience, correct rate of the shy individuals in the 3-back task is significantly lower than that of the 1-back task. The correct rate of non-shy individuals in 3-back task is significantly lower than that of 1-back task.In the1-back task, the shy individuals' correct rate is significantly lower than that of the non-shy individuals. In the 3-back task, the shy individuals' correct rate is significantly lower than that of the non--shy individuals. In the 1-back task, the correct rate of the non-shy individuals in the audience condition is significantly higher than that of the without the audience condition. The correct rate of the shy individuals in the audience condition is significantly lower than that of the without the audience condition. In the three-back task, the correct rate of the non-shy individuals have no significant difference in the presence or absence of the audience. The correct rate of the shy individuals in the audience condition is significantly lower than that without the audience.(3)Under the audience condition, the response time of the shy individuals in the the 1-back task is significantly higher than that of the 3-back task, the response time of the non-shy individuals is significantly higher than that of the 1-back response; In the 1-back task, the response time of the shy individuals was significantly higher than that of the non-shy individuals;in the 3-back task, the response time of the shy individuals was significantly higher than that of the non-shy individuals;in the 1-back experimental task, the response time of the non-shy individuals under the conditions of audience was significantly lower than that of conditions without the audience;the response time of the shy individuals in the audience conditions was significantlyhigher than that of conditions without the audience;in the 3-back experimental task. For the non-shy individuals, there was no significant difference in the reaction time in the presence or absence of the audience.Under the condition of the audience, the reaction time of the shy individuals was significantly higher than that of the nonaudience condition.(4)Under the condition of the audience, the conversion ability of shy individuals is significantly lower than that of non-shy individuals.Under the condition of without audience, the difference of the conversion ability of shy individuals and non-shy individuals is not significant. For shy individuals, there is significant differences in the conversion response between the presence and absence of the audience.Under the conditions of the audience, the conversion reaction time of the shy individuals was significantly higher than that of the non-shy individuals;and the difference between the shy individuals and the non-shy individuals in the presence or absence of the audience is not significant. This study shows that the shy individuals' not adapting to the situation and suppression in social situations is due to the impairment of the executive function, mainly for the ability to suppress, refresh ability and conversion capacity weakened, which is good for us to further understand the cognitive characteristics of the shy individuals.
