Research On Highway Construction And Road Network In Jiangxi In The Period Of The Republic Of China(1911-1936)

The construction of Jiangxi road in modern times started with Jiulian Road in1999.This road,which was the first provincial road from Lushan to Lianhuadong,was built to meet the demand of foreign tourists to visit Lushan.In the early years of Republic of China,The construction of Jiangxi road was left behind because of advanced water transport,years of war,economic difficulties and governments' cognitive limitation to the new thing.Since 1932,with the purpose of implementing the ‘bandits clean-up by traffic' policy,the construction of Jiangxi road changed into a war project from a civil project.During the period,the number of Jiangxi road became larger.Jiangxi road had the experience of starting from line to surface to net.At the same time policy was introduced,The provincial government strengthened the duties of road department and adjusted the road layout.On financing,special tax was levied and fund deployment was applied.Cheap labor force was also used.People got paid for construction work and money was distributed one for one.Under the policy of ‘more,faster,cheaper',road construction was specially handled in every matters from organization to financing.Jiangxi road network began to take shape in a few years and formed an imbalanced pattern of “three vertical and three horizontal”.The article begins with the traditional traffic and location of Jiangxi.By analyzing the current state of Jiangxi road during the early period of the Republic of China,the article discusses the historical process of Jiangxi road network construction from policies,organizations,financing,network layout to practical effect on the basis of sorting out relevant materials from 1930 s.It analyzes the special features so as to enrich the research of transportation history during the republic of China and help to advance the research on Jiangxi modern history.
