In tone languages, such as Mandarin Chinese, variations of tone patterns(i.e.,the fundamental frequency(F0)and its harmonics)of each syllable convey lexical meaning. In Mandarin Chinese, there are four different patterns(thus four tones):(1)flat and high,(2)rising,(3)low and dipping,and(4)falling.This study is a phonetic experimental study on the performance and acquisition of dissyllable tones of German speaking Chinese learners. The study aims to acquire a comprehensive and systematic investigate of mono-syllable and bi-syllable tone of the learner. In this demand,we have 41 German as mother tongue high school students to join this experiment.Under the guidance of the theory, using“Praat”,which is a free scientific computer software package for the analysis of speech in phonetics. It was designed, and continues to be developed,by Paul Boersma and David Weenink of the University of Amsterdam,we can obtain the single syllable and two syllable tone according to the record of German speaking Chinese learners,by using Praat,we can get a pitch lists of the tones, load the values into Microsoft Excel and create a tone plot data drawing tone curve.Through the description and analysis of the tone curve, from the tone and adjustable domain summarizes Chinese tonal errors of German speaking Chinese learners. The overall tone range is not wide;the first tone pitch is low.The bisyllable tone has the same problems especially the modified tone.
