| In order to gain a competitive advantage in global financial competition, China has to have a better and more accurate understanding of global financial information,rules and regulations. Therefore, a large number of translators for financial English are needed, especially the talents who can master both knowledge of English as well as finance. Different from English in common use, financial English text has its unique characteristics. The diction of financial terminology, the application of long and complex sentence, the rigorous and precise style of expression are all the features that financial text has. To successfully render a financial text, the translator must be equipped with qualified and professional translating ability.The author of this thesis translates the financial book Investment Manager Analysis : A Comprehensive Guide to Portfolio Selection, Monitoring, and Optimization. Under the guidance of Relevance Theory, with some specific examples,this thesis mainly explores and analyzes the translating difficulties and strategies of financial text from lexical level and syntactical level. The financial terminology and abbreviation are the primary difficulty from lexical level. From syntactical level, long and complex sentence and passive sentence are the main problem that the translator needs to pay special attention to. According to relevance theory, translating is a peculiar language intercommunication, and the key to this successful communication lies in the translator's capability and experience. Therefore, in translating, the translator should relate to maximal relevance theory,convey the author's intention,and try to lessen the reader's efforts in processing information.This report aims at summarizing the translating strategies of financial text,offering references for financial text translation and laying a foundation for the author's future translation work. Hopefully, it may shed some light on other kind of translation. |
