This paper is a translation report on E-C translation practices,whose translation sources are British and American literary expert—Robin Gilbank's essays,such as "Chen Zhongshi Remembered:Crossing the Ba","The Joys of Shaanxi Hua".The essays of Dr Robin mostly talk about culture,history,and literation in a modest diction.The message of his essays is deep and the style is natural and genial,all of these make the essays more interesting.In the meanwhile,the author has met many problems and obstacles in the process of translation,and overcome them after a long-term careful study.From the perspective of functional equivalence theory,this paper summarizes and studies the translation process,aiming to summarize the linguistic features and translation difficulties of essays and literary criticism,and explore the appropriate translation strategies and translations methods so as to make contribution to the function equivalence theory,and provide the methodological reference for the translation practice of similar literature works.In addition to the chapter of introduction and summary,this paper includes four chapters:the first chapter introduces the author of translation t;asks:Robin Gilbank and his works,classification;the second chapter for the translation process,including translation preparation,translation practices and proofreading,post-translation assessment;the third chapter talks about the functional equivalence theory and the application in practices;The fourth chapter is translation case analysis,exploring the proper methods—amplification,omission,annotation,foreignization and domestication,in the meanwhile,analysizing in examples.The summary part focuses on unsolved problems,experience and lesson,so as to encourage their own progress,and pave the way for the next practice.
