As China takes a closer look at the western world, western literature gains more attention.During the introduction of western female literature into China, translation is the key process for its quality determines whether Chinese readers can fully perceive the text, such as plots, characters, and stylistic features similarly to those of source text readers. The translation report aims to introduce, analyze and summarize the translation process and completion of the the novel—The Girl in the Red Coat from Chapter 25 to 29.The novel's author Kate Hammer once won the Davies Story Award, and this novel tells a story about how a mother lost her eight-year-old daughter at the story-telling fair and how they were united after many sufferings.Since it is the female literature, and the story is narrated by the mother and the daughter alternately, the critical and difficult point is how to exhibit the language features of the two main characters,so that the translation is accepted by the Chinese readers. The translator chooses functional equivalence theory proposed by Eugene A.Nida as guidance, and endeavors to contribute to adequate intelligibility and close aesthetic feelings to the source text. The report mainly consists of task introduction, translation process, theoretical basis, case analysis and translation practice of this English novel. The first part is the introduction. The second part focuses on the pre-translation preparation.Chapter Three deals with theoretical basis and its guiding significance to the translation text. The fourth part focuses on translation case analysis, which serves as the core part. The last part is the conclusion of the report, which gives a summary of the whole translation practice process.
