A Report On The E-C Translation Of Edison And The Rise Of Innovation (Excerpts)

With the increasing development of science and technology and further deepening of reform and opening-up,the reading,translating and application of the English scientific texts have been existed in people's daily life.However,with the features of objective,rigorous,accurate and refined languages,it's not easy to do English-Chinese translation of this kind of text.Thus,finding a best way to translate this kind of text is necessary.Based on the translation of Edison and the Rise of Innovation(Chapter 5,6,9),this report analyzes several cases to discuss some translation methods like reconstruction,amplification,fronting,annotation,combination and division with different language style from expository language's three features.For translator,this translation practice is a precious experience for future translation.This report is a kind of summary of my own translation practice,in order to benefit later scientific translation through this translation practice.The report has four chapters: introduction,description of the translation process,case analysis of translation and summary.Chapter 1 mainly introduces the author of Edison and the Rise of the Innovation and the linguistic features in this book.It also contains the significance of this report.Chapter 2 is the process of the translation.It describes the whole translation process.This chapter contains reading the source text and the parallel text before translation,the methods how to solve difficulties during the translation and the modification of the target text after translation.Chapter 3 is case analysis of translation.After translator analysis the whole text,she finds out there are some expository language in the source text.Thus,this part analyzes the expository language from three aspects,and then concludes the best way for the technical translation.Chapter 4 is the summary of the translation task.
