While Recording Techniques has been changing music industry basically and completely, having impact on all social walks and daily life of the whole society, the translation of Recording Techniques is still not popular in China.The author chose to translate the newly-added chapter in the latest edition of Understanding and Crafting the Mix: The Art of Recording.This book provides the framework to identify, evaluate, and shape one's recordings with clear and systematic methods. And this third edition allows one to develop critical listening and analytical skills to gain greater control over the quality of one's recordings. Dr. William Moylan,the author of this book, has worked with leading artists across the full spectrum of jazz, popular, and classical genres. He takes an inside look at a range of iconic popular music, thus offering insights into making meaningful sound judgments during recordings. The unique focus on the aesthetic of recording and mixing will allow one to immediately and artfully apply his expertise while we are at the mixing desk.During the process of translation, the author found the technical terms most difficult to deal with. Actually, this is one of the most distinctive features of EST, which not only accounts for a large part of its English vocabulary, but also are the most important source of words in this specific field. In this translation, it even ranges over an extensive area of various fields. Therefore, not only the good use of dictionaries and specific books can help, but also it's important to ask more when dealing with these problems.Also, the author was under the guidance of Christiane Nord's Instrumental Translation theory. Since EST as an independent English style has many unique characteristics, many problems occurred in this translation project, especially the specialized vocabulary. With the instrumental translation theory, the author tried to focus on the interpretation of the message itself and make information more useful and practical.
