A Report On Translation Of The Excerpts Of Big Data Fundamentals:Concepts, Drivers And Techniques

Progress of science and technology drives a fast-growing demand on translation of English for Science and Technology texts,which in turn promotes an increasing number of theorists and translators to study it.These texts have their own distinctive characteristics,which bring many difficulties in translation.Besides,modern science and technology develop so fast that the translation of relevent texts should follow the current situation.In recent years,Big Data has become popular,making people all over the world swarm into this domain.There is a need to introduce the latest information about Big Data from abroad to China.Therefore,it is meaningful to improve the quality of translation in this field.The text chosen for this translation project is the first two chapters of Big Data Fundamentals: Concepts,Drivers and Techniques(2016),a book describing Big Data and how to use it in business systems.By translating this text,the latest research results can be introduced to China,which can propel the further study on Big Data.Furthermore,the present translator elaborates on the important and difficult issues in the translation project,which can provide some enlightenments for other translators who translate EST texts in relevant fields.This report consists of five chapters.Firstly,it analyzes the source text and expounds on its features on lexical,syntactic and textual levels.Secondly,it describes the translation task,translation procedure and tools of the translation.Thirdly,it elaborates on the development and the three rules of Skopos theory.Fourthly,under this theory,it presents several examples chosen from the translation project with the analysis of three translation methods and six translation techniques.Finally,it concluds that the translator should choose proper translation methods and techniques to deal with the difficulties in translation.
