This thesis mainly discusses the comprehension and expression of the-ly adverbs collocated with verbs in English-Chinese translation. There are many obstacles caused by-ly adverbs due to their deformation and flexible location. In the thesis, from the point of the root of-ly adverbs, the author sums up different translation methods of-ly adverbs collocated with verbs when their root is noun, verb and adjective, such as literal translation, the root as the object, fixed translation and so on.The main purpose is to make translation of the-ly adverbs clear and practical. At the same time, the author does not support the idea of refining the classification, which will undoubtedly burden translators. Therefore, the author merges some overlapping and similar classification, trying to make this method simple and clear, but operational in most possible situations,so that we can explore a relatively simple-ly adverb translation method. In the author's view, transforming the-ly adverbs into the phrases where the root acts as the object from the perspective of the root, especially when the root of the word is a noun, will help translators have a moment of enlightenment while they are confused about the sentence meaning because of the-ly adverbs. This report is divided into four chapters: the first chapter is the introduction, mainly introducing the rationale of choosing the topic and the significance of the study;the second chapter is the task process, including the pre-translation preparation, the translation process and the proofreading after translation. The third one is the focus of this report, summarizing the different processing methods and translation strategies of the-ly adverbs when the roots are nouns, verbs and adjectives respectively;the fifth chapter is the conclusion, which summarizes the author's experience in translating the-ly adverbs and points out the shortcomings of this translation practice.
