Over the past two decades, imagology has been developing rapidly. Both domestic and foreign scholars have shown great interests in imagology. They are so enthusiastic to learn image cognitions between countries or ethnics through the study of literature,so the researches on national image have become an inevitable product of the cultural development in society.Within such a background, the translating of imagology books has become more and more important.Based on the translation of imagology-oriented text, this translation practice report selects Imagology Revisited,an English academic text concerned with the imagology field, specifically related to the discussions about the image of some relevant countries and nationalities under different cultures,as the translation corpus. In English language,non-finite verbs are not limited by the subject in person and number,so native English speakers have a special preference for non-finite verbs. However, due to their diverse structures, diverse functions and mutual overlapping,it will inevitably result in a tedious and bloated translation if translators just follow the original meanings in source text with literal translation. Therefore, some translation strategies should be adopted to deal with these non-finite verbs. This translation practice report selects several typical cases about non-finite verbs from Imagology Revisited to discuss the translation difficulty embodying Diverse Structural Characterizations,Grammatical Function Complexity and Frequent Mutual Overlaps of non-finite verbs in detail.Eventually several translation methods are found which fit the translation problems of non-finite verbs well embodying Voice-Transforming Translation Method,Order-Changing Translation Method,Merging Translation Method,Fronting-Position Translation Method,Splitting Translation Method,Sentence-Reforming Translation Method,Deleting-Repeated Translation Method,Deleting-Secondary Translation Method and Deleting-Irrelevant Translation Methodso as to offer some references and inspirations to translators in the translation of non-finite verbs from the similar academic texts.
