The Discourse of Court Interpreting: Discourse Practices of the Law,the Witness and the Interpreter,written by Sandra Hale,is an analysis of the discourse of lawyers,witnesses and interpreters in courtrooms from perspectives of pragmatics and discourse analysis based on recordings of court hearings.The translator translates Chapter Six of this book,as a part of team work.It is both challenging and fruitful to translate this book,as seldom academic books on this topic are published in China and paralleled texts are hard to find.Taking five principles in legal translation put forward by Li and Zhang,namely accuracy and precision,consistency and identity,clarity and conciseness,professionalism and standardized language as guiding principles,the translator successfully deals with difficulties facing in the process with helps of teachers and teammates and with reference to dictionaries and books.This report consists of four parts,including introduction to the translation project,description to the translation process,case analysis and conclusion.By summarizing the translation process,the translator finds that analyzing text type of the source text is essential for a translator to choose proper translation strategies.Besides,a translation project in need of team work requires coordination between all members,such as extracting terminologies,unifying translations and formats and setting up standards for quality control.Last but not least,the translator finds that collecting and contrasting statistical data is helpful for determining translation strategies and revised reasons,thus the translation can be more persuasive and convincing to meet requirements of translation quality.
