With the development of economy and society, the cross-culture communication is becoming more and more frequent. Audiovisual works, with its rich contents and its enjoyment, play an important role in cross-culture communication. And as one of important forms of audiovisual works, the documentary is used by a lot of countries as a carrier to promote their traditional culture, life style as well as national values. In cross-culture communication, only with qualified translation subtitle, can the documentary be well received by foreign audiences. However, most of the researches on subtitle translation have not developed fully both at home and abroad and are focused on the research of translation strategies, so they cannot provide a systematic guidance for the subtitle translation. In 2011, Professor Hu Gengshen creatively put forward the theory of Eco-translatology based on Darwin's Evolutionary Theory as well as Chinese ancient wisdom, which brings a new research perspective for translation studies. Eco-translatology makes an explanation to the principles, methods, process as well as standards for translation. With the development of this theory,Eco-translatology receives great concern from domestic and foreign scholars. Although the theoretical system of Eco-translatology has not been completely constructed, it can provide guidance and explanation for translation studies. This thesis studies the subtitle translation of domestic documentary from the perspective of Eco-translatology with the translation of Homeland Dreamland as a case study, focusing on analyzing the translational eco-environment of Homeland Dreamland and the translator's adaptation and selection to the environment, on the basis of which the author explores and discusses the degree of holism adaptation and selection of translation work, and then comes to the conclusion that the translator adapts to the translational eco-environment well through adopting proper translation strategies and that the translation work meets the standards of high degree of holism adaptation and selection. The author of this thesis has verified the explanatory power and guidance of Eco-translatology for translation and makes a little bit contribution to the development and practice of Eco-translatology as well as to the translation of documentary subtitle.
