Research On The History And Grottos Of Chongxiang Temple In Guangan City

As the famous old temple in the northeastern part of Sichuan Province,Chongxiang Temple which preserves niche statues of Sui and Tang dynasties on the temple's cliff is the representative of the Bashu Grottos.Especially the Di^pam!kara statue is very rare in Sichuan area and even the whole of China.Firstly,from the historical evolution of the Chongxiang Temple,the dissertation tries to sketch out the historical trajectory of the Chongxiang Temple from establishment,development and heyday to decline,which provides the basic materials of historical background for the study of the statue of Chongxiang Temple.In particular,the further research on the problem of "Yuan Jun" and the tablet of official granting can provide a more accurate reference for the carving age and chronological order of the precipice statue.Secondly,due to the incompleteness of the previous materials and understanding,it makes the chronological order of temple's grottos a certain deviation and omissions.The article will remake the grottoes carving stages and strive to be more accurate analysis based on the previous study.But also for the back of this article provide the era of considerations for the study of typical statue themes and the detail patterns.Thirdly,the research on typical statue themes.The former study is more simpler and only makes the preliminary identification of it,thus lacking comparison analysis and not involving in the systematic research on the classification,characteristics,sources and influence of this kind of statue subjects.This paper focuses on the further research on the Di^pam!kara statue and the combination niche of Buddhism and Taoism statue.At the same time,make comparison of the same and related statues which are sorted out and ultimately clarify the reasons,ages and its meaning of carving this type of statues.Finally,the study of decorative patterns.especially the classification of the niches,the head of light,the Buddha seat and other patterns initially show the evolution of the Chongxiang Temple's statues and its sources.In particular,which not only from the details confirmed the chronological order of the statue in the above analysis and even from carving art clarified the relationship of the precipice statues,but also provides a new direction for the future research on the Chongxiang Temple's grottos.
