Expository text is one of the most commonly used text style in all sorts of stylistic translation. With accurate language and clear expression, the purpose of this kind of text is to explain the characteristics, natures and rules of things or clarify reasons.Common exposition includes product descriptions, daily work reports and non-literary materials such as popular science books, technical information and so on.Genius 101,a typical exposition work,is regarded as the research object in the practice report.Chapter Three and chapter Four are selected as the translated text.As the professor emeritus department of psychology university of California,Simonton writes his own personal opinion about genius in this book, which can inspire people who study the genius. It is therefore imperative that translators of exposition texts retain these characteristics when they reproduce them in the target language.Skopos theory, put forward in the 1970 s by Vermeer, provides a theoretical basis for conventional translation strategies. It points out that translation is a type of purposeful activity.Skopos rule, coherence role and fidelity rule are the three guiding rules in the theory. Thus,it focuses on the target language, target readers and the social effects and communicative function, which broadens the fields of translation study.Taking words and sentences as its translation units, the translator analyzes original texts from the points of technical terms, text analysis and expression habits. On the guidance of Skopos Theory, this report analyzes translation cases by using the translation strategy of domestication, the skills of conversion, omission, division, restructuring and so on,in the hope of making the target readers easily understand the content of the original, and preserving the style of original text well. The translator also expects to provide a reference for future translation of exposition text.
