Over the years in China,with rapid advances in science and technology,scientific and technological exchanges with other nations have been on the rise.Translation of sci-tech texts serves as an indispensable means of scientific exchanges among nations.During the internship,the company which the author works for set up a research project on composites.The author,as one of the translators,took charge of translating a thesis titled “review of applications for advanced three-dimensional fiber textile composites”.When selecting proper translation strategies,the author took into consideration the communicative purpose of this paper,and attempted to act upon Peter Newmark’s theory of Communicative Translation,so as to ensure the fulfillment of informative function and communicative purpose.This translation report consists of four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction.The second chapter elaborates on the project and the process of this translation practice.The third chapter,as the core of this report,expounds the classification of scientific texts,the main features of the source text and relevant translation standards such as faithfulness,expressiveness and conciseness.The report proceeds to conduct,from five aspects,a comparative analysis of the effects two different translation strategies achieve under the combined guidance of Communicative Translation and relevant translation standards.In the last chapter,the author concludes the report and points out areas where improvements are necessary.The author hopes what has been discussed in this report may be of help to those who translate the similar texts. |
