In recent years, the acceleration of industrialization has led to increasingly acute meteorological problems, which have been exacerbated by climate change and the frequent occurrence of extreme weather. To address these issues,Springer Nature Switzerland AG published the book Climate Change and Global Public Health in 2021.This informative text reviews the current state of global climate change and public health issues, and analyzes the effectiveness of relevant policies and action plans. The selected chapters(17-19)cover the impact of indoor air pollution caused by cooking stoves on health and the environment, the effects of Indian households using biomass fuels for cooking on lung diseases in women and children, and the relationship between climate change and women’s health.According to Peter Newmark’s functional theory of language, texts can be classified into various types based on their functional characteristics, such as expressive, informative, and evocative types.Different types of texts require different translation strategies, such as semantic translation and communicative translation.Generally, semantic translation strategy is more appropriate for expressive texts as their primary purpose is to convey emotions, attitudes, and personal opinions. On the other hand, communicative translation strategy is more suitable for informative and evocative texts as they aim to convey information or achieve specific communicative purposes. As Climate Change and Global Public Health is an informative text with practical significance, the translation practice will be guided by communicative translation theory. One important feature of the book is that parentheses are frequently used, which may cause difficulties in comprehension if not translated properly. Therefore,in this translation practice, the author focuses on improving the communicative effect of parenthesis translation to ensure that the translated content is more in line with readers’ understanding and needs. The report is composed of five chapters. The first chapter provides background information on the translation project and its significance. The second chapter outlines the steps taken during the translation process.Chapter three provides a concise overview of communicative translation theory and its applicability to the translation of parentheses. The fourth chapter presents strategies for translating parentheses in meteorological and technological texts from a communicative perspective, including those that add information, express cause and effect, and enhance tone. The final chapter summarizes the findings of the translation report and highlights areas for improvement.Overall, this report seeks to provide a professional and comprehensive analysis of the translation of Climate Change and Global Public Health.
