A Report On The Translation Of Two Medical Texts On The Blood Pressure

As one of the types of scientific text,medical text is characterized by strict logic,precise wording and compact structure.Therefore,the translation of medical text needs special consideration,too.The function of medical texts is to communicate and promulgate medical information,which aligns with the author's purpose of translating the medical book and the medical thesis: spread advanced medical knowledge among the Chinese-speaking public.In view of this,the author examined medical texts through the lens of Skopos Theory and chose translation skills such as free translation,simplification,amplification,inversion and conversion in order to make the translation more readable and conform to the expression habits of the target readers.This report is divided into five parts: the first part is an introduction to the translation project,which mainly contains the introduction to the source text and a brief summary of the characteristics of medical text;the second part introduces Skopos Theory and analyzes its development as well as the application in translation;the third part is a description of the translation process,this chapter includes pre-translation period,translation process and the difficulties during the process.The fourth part,also the core part of this report,is about the analysis of cases and the final part is a conclusion,which consists of the findings during the translation practice and the limitations of the study.It is hoped that this report will be helpful to the translation of medical text.
