In-class reading is the main way for overseas students to learn chinese,while extracurricular reading is also an indispensable approach for them to learn chinese.Extracurricular reading can not only cultivate the interest of reading,but also the ability of reading,which is one of the important ways to accumulate knowledge and acquire language skills.In the extracurricular reading,it is the highest state for the second language learners to acquire the most authentic Chinese culture in the language.Even if students live in the target language environment,it is relatively insufficient of the research on their extracurricular reading,and short of the suitable reading materials for them.This paper makes a survey of Chinese as the second language extracurricular reading of international students,which is composed of the following five chapters:The first chapter "Introduction" mainly introduces the research object,purpose,significance,present situation and methods.The second chapter discusses the theory of reading and extracurricular reading.The third chapter makes a detailed analysis on the investigation of the students' extracurricular reading.The fourth chapter mainly puts forward some suggestions and methods on the results of the analysis of the third chapter,including these four aspects: the international students who is the main body of the extracurricular reading should develop the habit of reading and use the resources actively;Teachers should pay attention to the extracurricular reading and have scientific guidance and supervision consciousness;The public facilities library undertakes the responsibility to stimulate and mobilize the enthusiasm of students' extracurricular reading and provide more suitable reading materials;The preparation of extracurricular reading materials should adhere to the form and the content with the times,practical,economic principles.The fifth chapter summarizes the research conclusion,the main points,and puts forward the innovation and shortcomings.This paper is based on a thorough understanding of the second language extracurricular reading of foreign students,exploring the reasons behind the formation of such reading carefully.It will make the Chinese second language teachers pay attention to the extracurricular reading.It will also give some suggestions on the compilation and development of Chinese second language extracurricular reading materials which will enrich the current lack of Chinese second language extracurricular reading.
