A Chinese-english Translation Report On Local Culture And Literary Creation Based On 2016 China · South Asia & Southeast Asia Writers Forum In Kunming

In recent years,with the implementation of One Belt and One Road,the communication and contact between China and South Asia & Southeast Asia has become much closer.Countries along the Road cooperate with each other for common development.Yunnan,located in the southwest of China,borders most Southeast Asian countries.And the Mekong River,originated from Tibet of China and flowing as Lancang River in Yunnan,is the link between China and Southeast Asia.The river has given birth to great civilization on both sides of the river,and countries along the river have developed a similar culture.Culture is the mirror of a society.China · South Asia & Southeast Asia Writers Forum and the Mekong Literature Awards Ceremony held in Kunming is a best opportunity for China to strengthen One Belt and One Road with countries along the Road in the form of literature.Therefore,a good translation on this event about “Local Culture and Literary Creation” is very significant to promote cooperation and cultural exchange of national cultures.This report is based on the Chinese-English translation of seven speeches Chinese writers selected from The Collection of 2016 China·South Asia & Southeast Asia Writers Forum and the 7th Mekong Literature Award Ceremony in Kunming.The author uses the translation theory of Peter Newmark,the British famous translation theorist,and incorporates with the translation thought of Yan Fu,to guide her translation task and solve the problems during translating process.Hopefully it would present a good translation version to the reader and provide some applicable approaches that can be used in translating essays and speeches.This report is divided into two parts.The first part is the source text and the translated text.The second part has four parts.The first part introduces the background and significance of the translation task as well as the theme and style of the source text.The second parts gives an account of the whole process of translating,its preparation,translation,revision and final treatment,specifically introduces the application of Peter Newmark?s sematic and communicative translation theory and text function,and the translation thought of Yan Fu?s Faithfulness,Expressiveness,and Elegance in translation.The third parts focuses on types of problems and solutions during translating process,and gives specific analysis with certain theories and methods.The fourth part makes a summary on the report.The author summaries some experiences and enlightenment that she has acquired from carrying out this translation task and hopes that this report can provide some references for similar translation practices afterwards.
