In recent years, more and more western novels have been introduced to China,so that we can learn more about western culture. But English translation of Chinese novels is much less. This practice report is based on the translation of the novel Passing by your World. The novel consists of 33 true stories and is divided into seven chapters. The author chooses the first three stories as the material, and the whole translation is done by the author independently.Passing by your World is a Chinese novel written by Zhang Jiajia. The novel tells about several love stories about some of Zhang Jiajia's friends, and finally explains youth and growth. The author selects the German functional translation theory, the skopos theory as a guide,to achieve the purposes of both keeping the source language cultural characteristics and being readable.According to these two purposes, the author chooses foreignization and domestication as the two major translation strategies, and some translation skills are used in the process of translation. The language features of this work are the short sentences and catchwords. This practice report shows that the skopos theory can guide the English translation of Chinese novels, and it can achieve the author's purposes through the application of skopos theory. The practice report is designed to do some contributions to the translation of Chinese novels, and Chinese culture's output to the western countries.
