With the development of globalization, and the widespread of intercultural activities in different areas, translation has become one of the most important tools for people to communicate. And with the development of translation, there are increasing number of branches of translation studies on various subjects, among which is English long sentence translation. This research, from the perspective of Generalized Topic Structure, tries to provide a strategy for translators on translating long sentence, especially “what” object clause. In the process of translation,we have found that it's hard to translate the source text that is with “what” object clause into the target text that satisfies the reading habit of Chinese people. Thus, this research tries to deal with this problem.Under the guidance of Generalized Topic Theory, this research applies PTA Model of parsing, translating and assembling to analyze and study the translation of English long sentences with “what” object clause.PTA Model refines the process of translation and changes the translation of English long sentence into the translation of individual NT clauses. Thus, lower the difficulty in translating long sentences and improve the quality of target text. From the 55 long sentences with “what” object clause, amongst the total number of 7078 English sentences we have tagged, which we have translated by PTA Model,we can find that PTA Model has helped clear the translation process of “what” object clause, and realized the purpose of minimizing translationese. From this research,we can see that PTA Model of Generalized Topic Structure can be applied in English, and provide a new perspective for people to study translation.
