A Report On The Chinese Translation Of Commonly-used Sentences In Instruction For Audition 3.0 (Chapter 8)

This thesis is a translation practice report based on Instruction for Audition 3.0,which mainly studies the frequently-used sentence patterns that appear in the text.With the integrated development of the world economy,more and more advanced software and technologies have been introduced into China,which on the one hand provides opportunities for the rapid development of various fields,but on the other hand brings the problem of mutual translation between different languages.This report focuses on the translation of operation guide for its key role in software introduction and operating instruction.While translating,the author refers to Newmark’s Text Type Theory and Communicative Translation,hoping to accumulate translation experience in related fields and perform a reference role in the translation of similar texts.The report consists of four chapters.The first chapter introduces the background and characteristics of the translation task.The second chapter describes the translation process,including Newmark’s translation theories and the text data analysis in terms of sentence types.In the third chapter,two sentence patterns of high frequency are further classified and discussed in details.Imperative sentence is studied from four perspectives:the general imperative sentence,the "to do+imperative sentence" structure,the "imperative sentence+to do"structure and "imperative sentence+subordinate clause" structure.If-clause is divided into structures of "if+sth.+be+ved" and "if+you+v.…".Other long and difficult sentences are also studied.Various translation techniques,like amplification,ellipsis,division and conversion,have been comprehensively applied to the translation practice and analysis.The final chapter is the conclusion part.The author holds the perspective that text classification is a must before translation.Since the operation guide text has its unique regularity and marketability,in the process of translation full consideration should be given to the target language readers.For the sentences of the same pattern,a relatively fixed and uniform translation is key for the software users to easily follow the instructions.Polite expressions are also adopted to make the translation more reader-friendly.As for some long and difficult sentences,it is necessary for the translator to clarify the grammatical and logical structures and to comprehensively apply a variety of translation techniques.
