In the contemporary western world, science fiction is one of the most popular literature genres.Science fiction is different from traditional novels: it has direct contact with the development of science and technology, and can provide directions for its development. The 6th Extinction is the 10 th book of the famous American bestselling writer James Rollins' Sigma Squadron Series. The book tells a story about how the special force Sigma Squadron stops the upcoming sixth extinction.Under the theoretical guidance of three criteria: literariness, scientificity and popularity put forward by Professor Guo Jianzhong on the translation of science fiction, the author of this report translated the first four chapters of this book. This report is divided into four parts: task description, process description, case study and practice summary. In accordance with Professor Guo Jianzhong's criteria and on the basis of the text features of science fiction, the author tries to make his translation smooth and easy to understand and at the same time keep the exotic elements of the source language.Through this translation practice, the author hopes to improve his translation ability and if possible, make contribution to the introduction of foreign science fiction books.Currently, study on science fiction translation is marginal in the translation field. The author hopes this translation practice could possibly arouse more attention to science fiction translation.
