The year 2015 witnesses the 45 th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada. And with its second largest land area and the eleventh largest GDP volume(IMF,2015)in the world,Canada has always been one of China's strategic partners in many areas. It's natural for the government officials, entrepreneurs, and scholars here in China to want to know more about Canada. However,in China, for the time being, the study on Canadian affairs has long fallen behind the bilateral economic developments.Considering the soaring needs to explore this country and the insufficient work we have done on it,it is safe to say that the translation work of this volume has its own strategic meaning. This volume is edited by McDonough and brings together many experts from different fields to discuss issues related to Canada's national strategies. This volume belongs to social science studies and thus characterized by formal and standardized languages, complex sentence structures and massive use of abstract words. This entails a different translation priority from that of literary translation which emphasizes “similarity in spirit “and “stylistic equivalence”.Social scientific texts are often aimed at analyzing ideas, and elaborating opinions, and thus the translation of them should accordingly pay much more attention to the semantic equivalence. This volume consists of the introduction part and five other parts and this report mainly focuses on the introduction and the first part and talks about the problems the translator has met and the strategies used to deal with them under the guidance of Skopos theory.
