One of the reasons why trade disputes are happening so frequently due to the booming international petroleum trade with the rocketing development of world industry is that there are divergences between sellers and buyers in the understanding of the contract because of language differences. Therefore, the contract translation is of vital importance. This practice report introduces and analyzes the translation practice on the basis of translating Model Contract. The report mainly includes four parts,Task Description,Process Description,Case Analysis and Practice Conclusion.Task Description focuses on the introduction of selection of the source text and significance in the translation practice.Process Description begins from the preparation before translation which is carried out from professional knowledge, translation tools, glossary building and problems as well as solution during the translation.Meanwhile,it explores the guidance of the Functional Equivalence Theory in contract translation.Case Analysis is the most important part in the report which contains the analysis of words and sentences. The last part of the report is Practice Conclusion in which the author realizes that translation is not just the mechanical transformation between source language and target language.During the process of translation, various translation skills are applied as flexible as possible so as to make the target text fluent and to achieve the functional equivalence.
