Translation Practice Report On Contract T206:Underground Construction For Woodlands (Appendix) From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

With the development of economic globalization,the cooperation between Chinese and foreign enterprises is becoming more and more frequent.In the meantime,translation has become more and more important in the process exchanges and cooperation.As a formal legal document stipulating rights and obligations of each party,contract plays a vital role in the project cooperation.Therefore,cooperators and translation professors are increasingly putting a high premium on the quality of contract translation.This report discusses the translation of Contract T206:Construction of Tunnels for Thomson Line(Appendix)guided by the theory of Functional Equivalence Theory.The purpose of the contract translation is to ensure that two sides receive the same information and then complete their cooperation.Therefore,the Functional Equivalence Theory which focuses on communication results are suitable to study contract translation.This report attempts to analyze and study the contract texts from the perspective of Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory,aiming at providing constructive translation strategies for contract translation.The report is divided into four chapters: “Description of the Translation Task”,“Description of the Translation Process”,“Case Analysis” and “Summary”.The first two chapters introduce translation background,text features of contract,translation requirements,before-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation modification.The third chapter is the analysis of typical words and sentences the translator met during the translation process under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.The last chapter is the summary and reflection on the translation practice.
