The research on dance language characteristics is to study dancing itself.The dance language is aimed at expressing the in-born sentiments deep inside human being,thinking and recognition modes under cultural environment through externalization of body language or additional language.Dancing itself has a shape of symbolic importance which,like literal language,can express subjective thinking and implication and surpassingly reveal the literally indescribable sentiment.The research is theoretical and interdisciplinary that integrates sophisticated symbol research system with dance language,aimed to increase the research methods of dance theories and unearth the root of dancing.Revealing the core of cultural essence and sentiment expression through dancing,it makes the dance theory research even more reasonable and better-documented.The research falls into four parts: Part I.Introduction.This part summarizes the theme,purpose and current situation of the research,reviews the evolution of dancing from an objective perspective.Part II.Summary of Semiotic Theory and Understanding of Dance Language Symbols.From a theoretical perspective,this part highlights the relationship between dance and symbols,the research dimension of body language symbols,symbol structures,symbol characteristics and the assistance of extended media.Also,it analyzes the cultural and life shapes of dance language in the cultural value system.Part III.Clarification of Dance Language's Symbolic Function and Implication and Analysis of its Effect upon the Shape and Rules of Dance.Only recognition of its function,implication and effect can we explicitly understand the effectiveness of dance language symbols in contemporary creation.From the perspective of meta language,Part IV highlights how dancing has evolved from highly functional “language symbol” into “esthetic symbol” over social reform,cultural evolution,abstraction and rationalization.The radical change of human elements during historic periods has endangered and eliminated fine art;however,the artistic spirit survived and revived on the brink of elimination.Thus,we conclude that all external forms are only the superficial shape of the core.The core of dancing art should reflect the deep inside of artistic spirit by which to ensoul dancing.The research attempts to study semiotics by which to figure out the shape,inception and culture of dance.On the other hand,it re-explores the function,implication and culture of dance via scientific methodology.In close conformity with dancing itself,the research has theoretically combined the strengths of each style in order to further explain the phenomenal issue of dancing culture.Based on each kind of cultural symbol phenomenon,the deep-seated implication has been revealed and the importance of human dancing culture highlighted.Also,it reproduces dynamically the diversity,abundance and creativity of“human-created dance” that is contradictory unity,restores the self-creation of human being from the free thinking of the dancing gesture liberalization and philosophical free thinking.We consider the evolution history of dancing as part of cultural history of human being beyond the realistic and historic restraints and explore the shape of dancing in the world of meanings.Theoretically,practically and innovatively important,this helps understand “the shape of life” of dancing,reveal “the unique features” of dancing,promote “the level of recognition” of dancing by which to crowd out the “pure form”,“artistic play” and“technique-based” esthetic orientation.
