At present,China and Africa are enjoying sound relations with increasingly frequent bilateral and multilateral exchanges.Serving as a bridge for communication, interpreters can play a significant role in this process. However, they are confronted with such difficulties as linguistic knowledge,extra-linguistic knowledge and analysis ability.Researches on how to tackle these difficulties are quite limited. This practice report explored the obstacles existing in interpretation for China-Africa exchange programs and put forward some suggestions under Gile's Interpretation Comprehension Equation(GICE).The examples and cases come from the author's interpretation for business meetings among a Chinese manager and African ambassadors and counselors, and the 8th China-African High-level Experience Sharing Program. It covers thirteen African countries, which are located in different parts of Africa and have diverse linguistic and cultural features. This report found out that such linguistic knowledge as accent and vocabulary,extra-linguistic knowledge as professional knowledge and cultural factors are the main obstacles to interpretation for China-Africa exchange programs. In addition, the author gave some suggestions on better interpreting these programs under GICE.They are: enlarging vocabulary and strengthening listening comprehension ability to expand the knowledge of language;learning about African culture and professional knowledge about agriculture, loans, infrastructure projects and other fields relevant to China-Africa exchanges and cooperation to enrich extra-linguistic knowledge;utilizing cognition, intention and image analysis to enhance analysis ability.
