A Report On The Translation Of Technical Specifications For Baggage Handling System Into Chinese

This report,which is done with the application of the Skopos Theory,is a comprehensive analysis and summary of the translation of Technical Specifications for Baggage Handling System of the Airport,and the translation has undergone several proof-reading drafts.The source text is provided by an aviation logistics technology company,with the technical specifications of check-in counters as the first half of the text and the baggage handling system as the second half.Based on the Skopos Theory,this thesis analyzes the translated text and discusses the problems encountered during the translating process and the corresponding strategies employed in tackling the problems.The report consists of four chapters.The first chapter describes the necessary preparations for the translation.The second chapter summarizes the characteristics of the text as well as the difficulties encountered during the translating process.The third chapter,the core part of the report,makes an analysis of the specific strategies and methods adopted in the translation of the text,the sentences and the words under the guidance of the three rules of the Skopos Theory,namely,skopos rule,coherence rule,and fidelity rule.The last chapter is the conclusion part.This part summarizes the translation practice,reflects on the limitations of the translation and advocates that translators should review and proofread the translated text again and again.Through this practice,the author has got a better understanding of the translation of the technical texts.Due to the professional features and specialized vocabulary of technical texts,translators must be equipped with a certain knowledge of the related field and have the skill of disposing all kinds of problems flexibly according to the given text so as to ensure the accuracy and fluency of the translation.
