A Report On The E-C Translation Of Technical Specifications For Expander-Compressor Unit

With the continuous expanding of the reforming and opening up in recent years,E-C translation has played a more important role in the development and cooperation between China and foreign countries.A significant characteristic of economic globalization is the globalization of science and industry.Therefore,to accelerate the transformation of economic growth mode and promote upgrading of the industrial structure become a significant strategic task for China's economic development.The capability of scientific translation is one of the “capabilities” that can contribute to accomplish this strategic task.In regard to scientific translation,analyzing the language features,translation disciplines,standards and strategies of scientific text is of great significance.More attention shall be paid to translation standards and strategies of scientific text so as to deepen our comprehension of scientific text and translate such text proficiently and precisely.Taking this translation project as case study,the translator explained the background of the project,translation process description,difficulties and solutions during translation as well as assessments from various parties.During the process of translation,the translator used Skopos theory especially the Skopos principle as the theoretical guidance.Based on the Skopos theory,the translator adopted some translation techniques which facilitated the translators in the process of translation.The examples used in this report are mainly taken from the Technical Specifications and other typical scientific texts,so as to explore the translation discipline and strategies of scientific text in specific situation.Through this translation project,the translator has an insight into time management,quality control as well as the requirements for a qualified transltor.To begin with,reasonable time management during translation can not only ensure translation task being completed as scheduled but also benefit to improve quality of target text.Efficient time management is also in favor of improving translation speed.Moreover,as quality of target text is closely related to the reputation of translators and the company,the quality of target text shall be controlled from the aspects of content,form,etc.At last,the translator realizes that a qualified translator shall comply with the following qualifications:bilingual competence,cultural knowledge,industry knowledge,translation knowledge,computer knowledge as well as sense of responsibility and confidentiality.After the accomplishment of the translation project,the client spoke highly of the transaltors and their work.Through summary of the translation project,the translator comes to the following conclusions: from the perspective of theory,Skopos principle which is one of the important principles of Skopos theory plays a significant guiding role in the process of translation.In terms of practice,this translation project is a good experience and enhancement for the translator's knowledge and capability.At the same time,the translator realizes that there is still much room for enhancement in terms of industry knowledge,which means the translator needs to widen her horizon of knowledge and mutual encouragement shall be conducted between translators.
