With the implementation of “one belt, one road” initiative, the cooperation between China and other countries along the route in the field of water conservancy is becoming increasingly close. At present, most of the international project technical specifications in the field of water conservancy engineering are written in English, which creates language barriers for the participation of Chinese enterprises, while there is little research on the Chinese translation of these specifications at home and abroad.Under the guidance of Skopos theory, the author translated some chapters of Technical Specifications for Rehabilitation and Improvement of Bakolori Irrigation Scheme.Based on this translation practice, this report is to discuss the translation process, summarize the characteristics and difficulties of this kind of text, and put forward solutions to these difficulties,in the hope of providing reference for future translation practice in this area.According to Katharina Reiss' s text typology, the source text belongs to informative text, with the main purpose of information transmission. The source language is standard and rigorous with lots of terms, passive voice and compound sentences, which increase the difficulty of translation. The author dealt with the terms in the source text by consulting professional dictionaries and parallel texts. The passive voice and compound sentences were handled flexibly under the guidance of Functionalist Skopos theory.Four methods were adopted to cope with the passive voice: translating the ST into Chinese passive voice, retaining the subject of the ST,translating the subject of the ST into the object of the TT,and translating the ST into a Chinese non-subject sentence.Beside, four methods were mainly employed in the translation of compound sentences: sequential translation, reverse translation, division and restructuring. This report consists of five chapters.Chapter one introduces the contents, purposes and significance of the research.Chapter two describes background and requirements of the translation.Chapter three describes the translation process, including preparation before translation, translation implementation and translationrevision.Chapter four analyzes some translation cases, which summarizes translation methods used in the process of translation from three aspects: terms, passive voice and compound sentences. The last chapter concludes the whole translation practice.
