Guizhou,as a province consisting of many minorities with a long history locating in the Southwest of China,started its professional music education rather late nationally due to its long term inaccessibility and far away from China`s political,economic and cultural center.New musical culture has been wide spread since “music class” was introduced into Guizhou`s western style schools in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China.During the period of Anti-Japanese War,advanced educational thoughts and philosophies were brought into Guizhou by“Universities and Colleges Moved into the Inland”,which laid a sound foundation for the establishment of universities and colleges in Guizhou.Meanwhile,the emerging of music associations propagating the thought of “Resistance against Japan and National Salvation” emerged at the right moment bred and promoted high professional music education in Guizhou,and the same enlightened and developed herefrom.This paper attempts to study on high professional music education in Guizhou during 1950-1964 in the perspective of history of music and music education,summarizes the characteristics of specialized institutions engaging in high professional music education and explores its significance in modern and contemporary history of music education in Guizhou by approach of document analysis,statistical analysis and comparative research on the basis of comprehensively analyzing theircourse offered,instructional method,textbook contents,faculty and educational administration etc.This paper is formed by introduction,text and conclusion,among which,text consists of three chapters.Chapter One introduces the ferment of high professional music education in Guizhou by “Class music”,“Movement of Singing for the Resistance against Japan” and professional music education before 1949;Chapter Two studies on the initiation and development of high professional music education in Guizhou from 1950 to 1964.This chapter studies on its initiation and development by analyzing the changes of school system,course offered,instructional method,faculty and educational administration etc.in typical high professional music education institutions;Chapter Three emphatically analyzes common characteristics of early professional music education in Guizhou during its ferment,initiation and development,and then explores the significances of early high professional music education institutions on Guizhou`s modern and contemporary history of music and education.
