| This thesis is a translation practice report on the great game(Chapter twenty-third to chapter twenty-fourth).The author of the novel is Peter Hopkirk.Peter Hopkirk is a famous British writer,and he got the Sir Percy Sykes Memorial Medal which was awarded by the Asian Affairs Department of the Royal Society of London in 1999.He wrote six books including the great game about the Middle East which based on his abundant working experiences there.The great game is about the secret war in Central Asia that between the British Empire and Tsarist Russia in the early nineteenth century.In recent years,due to the impact of the crisis in Ukraine,a new round of diplomatic power prevailed in Central Asia,and that means a new round of the great game is also officially started there.In this context,the translation practice will serve as a valuable Chinese reference to those who are interested in Central Asia.The translation theory the thesis adopted is the functional equivalence theory which is proposed by Nida.The key point of “functional equivalence” is the equivalence between form and content,which requires us to make a comparison from the aspects of vocabulary,syntax and discourse.This translation practice report is based on the functional equivalence theory which select the appropriate examples to analyze respectively from three aspects of vocabulary,syntax and discourse.At the lexical level,the author adopts the method of free translation,conversion and so on.At the syntactic level,the author adopts the method of combination,division,etc.At the textual level,cohesion and coherence is the focus of discourse analysis.By finishing this translation practice,the author realized the importance of guiding the practice by the theory,which is of great help to improving the capacity of the translator. |
