A Report On The Translation Of Wild Game:My Mother,Her Lover And Me Under The Guidance Of Functional Equivalence Theory

To enhance her translation capacity and explore the current translation market,the author entered into a contract with the publishing house to participate in the translation of Wild Game: My Mother,Her Lover and Me.This translation belongs to literary translation,and the author chooses Nida‘s functional equivalence theory as the guiding theory.Based on this practice,the report will elaborate on the problems encountered,analyze the causes,and put forward solutions under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.This paper analyzes the problems and difficulties encountered in the translation process according to the four criteria of functional equivalence.The key and difficult points of this translation practice mainly focus on four-character phrases and the translation of words with contextual meaning,the processing of complex sentence patterns and how to translate dialogues.Guided by functional equivalence theory,the author summarizes the translation strategies for the above issues as follows: Diction,extension and amplification are used to fully convey the information of the original text;In order to realize the standard of ?conveying the spirit and style of the original text?,the author uses conversion,and she fully analyzes the characters and their relationships to make the dialogues more suitable for the characters the atmosphere of the dialogues;Combination and division make the target text more consistent with the grammatical rules and expression habits of Chinese;To make readers get similar response,the author uses a lot of four-character phrases in the translation and restructures some sentences.Under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory,this translation has realized appropriation and naturalness.Through analyzing and summarizing of the translation,the author has concluded a series of effective translation strategies.In addition,through this translation practice,the author has firsthand experienced a series of working procedures of professional translators from trial translation to submission and has also preliminarily learned about the current translation market.Through this translation project,the author has improved her capacity and laid a solid foundation for her future to entry the translation industry.
