The Great Game is a political term in the period from the middle of the 19 th to the early 20 th centuries.It refers to the conflict that the British Empire fought against Tsarist Russia to control over the countries in the Central Asia.Since then,the phrase The Great Game has become more and more popular in the international arena and the countries and areas involved in this historical event have also become hot topics in the researches from foreign and domestic scholars.The work is a historical novel of specific politics,history and military affairs among great powers.To complete the translation practice,the student searches for related materials and documents,selects translation tools,chooses Eugene Nida's Functional Equivalency as guidance and flexibly applies suitable translation strategy and methods,developing translator's initiative to the full.The translation work not only delivers the linguistic information of the original text,but also conveys the culture information.To realize the goal of culture delivery,the obstacles such as long and complicated sentences,unfamiliar historical events and archaisms in the original text were overcome.Deep and thorough analysis and researches of the original text based on the understanding of culture background lay the foundation for the future scholars who want to take a deep insight of the Great Game and its relevant affairs.
