Literary translation plays an important role in translation activities,and translation of novels is a main stream of literary translation.The characterization,regarded as the soul of the novel,plays a crucial role in novel.This article,with the methods of documentary study and comparison,from the perspective of pragmatics,makes an analysis and research on the translation method for the character portraits and the problems that should be paid attention to during the translation for the character portraits in the Qum Basqan Sheher(translated as The Ancient City buried in desert)and the Chinese version of the madman series written by Mamtimin·wushouer.Through the analysis and study on the method of translation(from Uygur into Chinese)of the character portraits,there comes to a conclusion that different texts have different translation methods and influences aroused by problems like context should also be paid attentions to during translation.Research finding is of certain significance to translation theory and practice,and it can also give reference to future translation work.
