Biography is a common literary form which is based on history or facts.It mainly records people‘s life and portrays their life experiences.?Three Members of Our Family? is a biography written by Yang Jiang in her 92.This book is mainly about the memory of happy time of Yang Jiang,her husband and daughter.It was written in a sad tone with very simple language.The whole book is full of doggerel,slangs,idioms and also some elegant poems.The source text of this translation report is ?Three Members of Our Family?.I chose this biography as the source text for several reasons.First of all,with the globalization of economy and culture,many famous works of China are translated into English and introduced into foreign countries.Secondly,Yang Jiang was a very famous writer and translator in the world whose works have received warm welcome by readers from home and abroad.Thirdly,Yang Jiang passed away some time ago which makes her work--?Three Members of Our Family?—regain the attention of the readers in the world.Finally,great translation works contribute a lot to culture exchange.It is very difficult to translate this work into English and there is no English version of this work yet,so I want to give it a shot,do the translation and obtain a translation work with relatively high degree of holistic adaptation and selection.I use the Eco-translatology theory to guide my translation practice.I mainly adopt three translation approaches which are adaptive transformation from the linguistic dimension,adaptive transformation from the cultural dimension and adaptive transformation from the communicative dimension.I also combine these three translation approaches with traditional translation methods such as literal translation,free translation,domestication,alienation and so on,so as to obey the translation rules—faithfulness,expressiveness and elegance.Given to the fact that,first of all,Chinese differs from English in many aspects,for example,English uses more nouns,while Chinese uses more verbs;English uses more passive sentences,while Chinese uses more active sentences;English is subject-prominent while Chinese is topic-prominent etc.,and secondly,the cultural background,customs and expressions of China and English-spoken countries are different,and thirdly,a lot of metaphors are used in the source text for communicative effects,hence,the translator should take the linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension into consideration in the process of translation.
