During the translation practice, the translator selects a memoir of Chinese American writer M.Elaine Mar(Mar Man Yee)named Paper Daughter. There are 12 chapters in the book, and the translator selects chapter one Chicken Bones and Mother's Milk which tells the readers about Mar's childhood in Hong Kong. The book is both authentic and dramatic, and they are two characteristics of memoirs and novels. How to reproduce the situations the author describes while keeping the form and style of the text is the key point.Based on Peter Newmark's text-typology and the style of the source text, the translator applies Peter Newmark's communicative and semantic translation theory and makes a specific analysis on related issues during the translation process. This translation report contains four chapters. The first chapter is about task description, which includes an introduction of the translation task(including the work and the author)as well as its research significance;the second chapter is about procedure description including preparations,while-translating and proofreading;and the third chapter is about case study, which mainly records examples and analyses of application of communicative and semantic translation theory into the practice;while in the last chapter, the author makes a brief conclusion which mainly covers personal reflections after the translation practice and some problems to be solved in the future.
