Wei-Suo institution is an important martial policy in the Ming and Qing dynasties.There were a lot of guarding posts along Zhejiang coastal area as important defences in the Ming and Qing Dynasties,and Guanhaiwei is one of them.Now it's called Guanhaiwei Town,which is in Cixi,Ningbo,Zhejiang Province.Guanhaiwei is built in 1386,and it became an import coastal military city in the next year.During the meantime,Guanhaiwei has been transferred garrisons from Funingwei of Fujian Province.The dialect of the garrison is called “Yan Language”,also known as “Wei Li Language” or “Oppidan Language”,which is a Southern Fujian dialect island in Cixi city,but the local dialect of Cixi city is “Wu” dialect.The population or frequency of using “Yan Language” is not dominant,and the use of the scope has become increasingly narrow now,even if some people can speak “Yan Language”,their emotional attitude is also very negative.“Yan Language ” is facing endangered risk.At present,the sociolinguistics research of the dialects of the guarding posts in Ming and Qing Dynasties in Ningbo is basically in the blank stage.This thesis analyzes and summarizes the history,toponymy,surnames,customs of the Guanhaiwei in Ming and Qing dynasties from the persperctive of sociolinguistic.Besides,investigating and analyzing the language use and language attitudes of the residents,and predicting the trend of dialect change are also the goals of this thesis.This thesis is composed of seven chapters.The first chapter is the introduction.It introduces the research situation related to this topic and the basic situation of Guanhaiwei and “Yan Language”,and also expounds the significance and methods of the topic.The second chapter is the sociolinguistics report of Guanhaiwei.The third chapter analyzes the reasons why the dialect of Guanhaiwei evolves,and summarizes the protection countermeasures of “Yan Language” resources.The forth chapter mainly classifies the place names in Guiweiwei town in order to find out the historical traces of the guarding post in Ming and Qing dynasties.The fifth chapter mainly discusses the literatures and field investigations of surnames in Guanhaiwei in order to know the source and the composition of the garrisons.We found that the main residents of Guanhaiwei had been lived in the land before the garrison immigrants.A large number of surnames of the garrison were from Funingwei(now Xiapu County)of Fujian province,and another part of garrison are from Yueqing County of Wenzhou City.The sixth chapter compares the customs of Guanhaiwei with Ningbo and Southern Fujian,and we found that during the Wanli period of Jiajing,the customs and habits of residents of Guanhaiwei have been mostly close to Ningbo local customs.The sixth chapter The last chapter is the conclusion.The significance of this study is not only to provide a typical sample for the researches on the dialects of Ningbo guarding posts in the Ming and Qing Dynasties from the perspective of sociolinguistics,but also helps to appeal the attention to the recording and rescuing the endangered dialects.
