The articles in this translation report are selected from the Harvard Business Review website http://www.hbrchina.org.As an authoritative magazine committed to improving business management practices,Harvard Business Review provides advanced and unique management philosophy,as well as excellent management practice for businessmen around the world,while exerting positive impact on the entrepreneurs and their enterprises.Many advanced management philosophies which have profound impacts on the global business management practices can be found their roots in Harvard Business Review.Basing on Text Type Theory proposed by Peter Newark,Harvard Business Review is defined as informative text which mainly represents facts,information,knowledge,and viewpoint with logical expression.It's content-focused,rather than form-focused.Translators are expected to convey the same concept and information of the source text with plain language.The report falls into six chapters.The first chapter briefly introduces the source text and the significance of translation.The second chapter is about process description.The third chapter is specific analysis from the perspectives of lexicology,syntax and discourse.The forth chapter is about analysis and translation of culture-loaded words.The fifth chapter is various skills applied in translation.The last chapter contains a summary about the translating of this text.Through close and careful reading of articles from Harvard Business Review,the author has a clear understanding of differences in management philosophy and management method between China and the western countries.In management philosophy,enterprises in Western countries focus on humanism management and adhere to people-oriented.While in management method,they prefer to use tactics,such as version,analysis,and feedback.According to analysis of language characteristics in lexicology,syntax,and discourse,the author finds that comprehension and translation of culture-loaded words,complex sentence,cohesion and coherence of discourse are the key and difficult points.According to the key and difficult points,the author applies translation skills like paraphrasing translation,inversion,division into practice.As a business English translator,the author summarizes four viewpoints in the process of translation as follows.First,laying equal stress on practice and theory,translators should combine them.Second,skills should be linked up with practice,and translators should focus on translation of business text and translation skills as well.Third,general knowledge needs to be kept pace with specific knowledge,translators are not only proficient in business knowledge,but also proficient in other fields.The last one,improvement in translation ability and translation virtue,translators should take cultivation of business skills into account as well as professional ethic.
