A Report On Translating Tender Document Of Evergrande Real Estate's Land Reclamation And Cleaning Project

When it comes to translation,what people think of above all is literary translation.To meet the needs of social development,however,translation has tended to the non-literary translation until now.With the continuous deepening of globalization,economies over the world have been more closely tied.There have been increasingly frequent exchange activities in international engineering projects.China,also constructively participate in such bidding activities of international engineering projects.Despite its long history and abundant practices,translation of bidding documents,as a part of non-literary translation,has not been thoroughly studied.Bidding document,as a significant communicative document,plays a crucial role in China's participation in international bidding activities.At present,translation of bidding documents has become one of the most common businesses for translation agencies,which accounting for a large share in the market.The author of this paper selects Tender Document of Evergrande Real Estate's Land Reclamation and Cleaning Project as the source text and tries to translate it from Chinese into English.The author will describe and summarize all essential aspect of preparation work,source text analysis and source text translation.The report on the translation practice can mainly be divided into four parts.The first part is the pre-preparation work,which includes reading relevant background information,consulting parallel texts,collecting technical terms in related field and making a glossary.The second part is the analysis of text type,linguistic features and structural characteristics.In the third part,guided by the Skopos theory,the author analyzes several cases in aspects of the translation of technical terms,the translation of complicated sentences and the conversion of voice.The last part summarizes the problems encountered in this practice and the guidance for future study as well as future work.Through this project,on one hand,I hope to improve my translation competence,learn more about features of bidding documents and equip myself with more non-literal translation strategies.On the other hand,I wish to make a little contribution to promote project bidding cooperation between China and other countries around the world.
