Practice Study Report On E-C Translation Of Tender Documents Of Wholesale Metering And Transmission Reinforcement Projectof Tajikistan

This Report on Translation Practice is to research and summarize the translation processes and translation behaviors for Invitation for Bid,Bid Data Sheet,Evaluation and Qualification Standards,Quotation Sheets in the bidding documents of Wholesale Metering and Transmission Reinforcement of Tajikistan,and some chapters and sections in commercial part in tender documents that need to be translated from English into Chinese,aiming to provide the implementation grounds for the operating personnel engaging in the oversea electric power engineering on making a decision for whether they should participate in the bidding activities of the project or not,meanwhile enhancing the importance of the translations of bidding documents in the bidding activities.In the preparations before translation,the author has inspected the domestic bidding documents of electric power engineering as the paralleled texts and prepared the technical terms in the respect of electric power engineering.Through analyzing the characteristics of word selection,sentence pattern and discourse in the bidding documents of international electric power engineering during the translation process,the vocabulary equivalence of English-Chinese translation,under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory,has been realized through translating in Chinese for the names of places and people translated from Tajik into English,conducting professionalization of common words,selection meanings of abbreviated words and word formation;the equivalence of sentence patterns has been realized through literal translation and combined translation for declarative sentences,lessened translation for short clauses and division translations of complex sentences;and the equivalence of chapters and sections has been realized through translating the key tables in bidding documents.The author proves by practices that the proper selection of translation strategies is appropriate for the practical texts with strong functionality and purposiveness under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory.After smoothly completing the translation tasks,the author has conducted cooperation with technical and economic personnel to handle business procedures and enquiry tasks for implementing the bidding.The author hopes this Report on Translation Practices could provide references to translation skills for practitioners engaging in electric-power translation,so as to better help bidding units complete tendering work.
