This thesis is to explore toy design and development in the context of the traditional,including the innovation of traditional toys and toy design base on traditional culture.The significance of this thesis is to save and develop traditional Chinese toys,and to guide the modern toy design of our country with traditional culture essence.Through analysis of toy historical development and status of modern toys and industry,the author extract important features of modern toys.It is concluded that the idea and method about toy design and development in the context of the traditional.Research results and conclusions are as follows: traditional toys has unique value and tenacious vitality.In the toy market dominated by the west,although the market share becoming smaller,we must keep the essence of traditional toys and get rid of the trash in them.Traditional toys don't have to become sclerotic and directionless-the fiefs.They need to pace to keep up with trend.Through the theme,shape,material,technology and other aspects absorbing contemporary soil nutrient,we will achieve innovation.Only in this way can traditional toys survive and develop under the background of globalization.On the other hand,toy industry in China lack of independent innovation.Toy design must be based on traditional culture from the perspective of the study of traditional culture,absorbing the essence of mining,which is to inspire and guide the design of China's modern toys.It will also improve the development and the innovation ability of toy industry.The country needs to support small and medium-sized enterprises and promote traditional toys and contemporary toys' manufacturing;Traditional folk artists should not only carry forward "builders" spirit,but also accept the change of new era;Customers can participate in the toy design and development,while toy companies need to cultivate the educational toys and DIY toy market.
