Translating 2014 Faw Group Csr Report: Juliane House's Translation Quality Assessment Model

Corporate Social Responsibility Reports have received increasing attention from companies.Under the background of globalization,the cooperation and communication among companies are increasing.If Chinese companies want to have certain influence on the international stage,they must strengthen their cooperation with other companies around the globe.Corporate Social Responsibility Reports(CSR reports)are their stepping-stone to do so.However,nowadays,the compilation quality of Chinese CSR reports is not so good in contrast to the ever increasing demand of translation of such topic.Under such circumstances,the translation strategy and methods concerning CSR reports are to be studied.Based on a self-built Corpus of 20 Chinese and English CSR reports,this thesis summarizes the stylistic and functional features of CSR reports and takes FAW 2014 CSR report as examples to bring up possible C-E translation strategy and methods of CSR reports in the frame of reference to House's Translation Quality Assessment Model.The functional feature of the FAW 2014 CSR report is mainly informative.The stylistic features of the FAW 2014 CSR report are characterized with title,culture-loaded words,four-character expressions,ideology,formal words and specialized terms.From the comparison between Chinese CSR reports and English ones,it can be concluded the differences of stylistic features between Chinese ones and English ones include title,culture-loaded words,four-character expressions and ideology.It is these differences that lead to translation problems.By combining these problems with House's TQA model,translation strategy and methods concerning CSR reports can be summarized.In order to produce similar reading experience between Chinese version and the translated one,domestication and literal translation are adopted.To achieve functional equivalence between ST and TT,several translation methods are proposed respectively,which are Imitation & Modification,Acculturation,Paraphrase,Concision and Omission.
