A Practice Report Onanticipation In Simultaneous Interpreting From The Perspective Of Schema Theory

The task described in this report involves the simultaneous interpreting for three out of five speeches on the Celebration Ceremony of the 70 th Anniversary of Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute& SXPI-TAFE Cooperation Ceremony on November 16 th,2016 in Xianyang.After the task,the author reviewed her recording and found omission,repetition and inaccuracy which undercut her interpreting performance due to the lack of anticipation.From previous studies on anticipation in SI,the author found anticipation can be classified as linguistic anticipation and extra-linguistic anticipation.With the help of Schema Theory,linguistic anticipation can be divided into the anticipation on fixed ceremonial expressions,syntactical structure,collocations;extra-linguistic anticipation can be divided into the anticipation onthematic schema,schema about culture differences and schema about the audience.The author analyzes the application of the strategies of linguistic anticipation and extra-linguistic anticipation by conducting a textual analysis on typical examples from the real situation recording.The author attempts to validate the applicability of anticipation in SI and sums up that anticipation help interpreters improve the quality of interpretation.
