Simultaneous interpreting means turning the words of a speaker into another languageand expressing them almost at the same speed as it is heard. The interpreter must translatethe speech accurately within a very short time span of a few seconds, which requires thathe or she should possess basic qualities as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks atonce. In this paper, the author first tries to express the ways of anticipation from threefacets: language, structure and content under the guidance of the Schema Theory, and thenargues for the importance of its combined application with linear interpretation. To put itsimple, schema is a huge memory house storing much information. By finding acounterpart in the memory house, the interpreter can understand the speaker·s words better. This enables him to understand the speaker if he accumulates enough schema. Apart fromthe accumulation of knowledge, the interpreter should also master interpreting skills suchas linear interpretation. Since interpretation is greatly different from written translation inthat the latter grants us to modify repeatedly while the former can only be done once andfor all. The author proposes in this paper to obey the rules of linear interpretation which isin line with the syntax of the original sentences. The combination of linear translation andanticipation ensures ample preparation in action, and is greatly helpful for interpreters toincrease the interpretation quality.
