With the advancement of the Belt and Road,the academic exchange and cooperation between various institutes has increased a lot.An accumulating number of Chinese students choose to study abroad,while a great number of foreign students select to study in China or Xinjiang.At this critical moment,in order to enable foreign students to fully understand the university,the university webpage profiles served as the public image plays a significant role.Decent and organized information in the university webpage profiles would help the university to build a good image,meanwhile,it can offer useful information.Today,many schools are equipped with English profiles on their official website,however,many of them stay at the stage of literal translation,but fail to take into adequate account of the cultural background of the target readers.This paper takes skopos theory as the theoretical framework.In order to make the thesis more convincible,the author selects the university webpage profiles in ten foreign universities as parallel texts to analyze the current situation.What's more,the author summarizes the similarities and difference of Chinese and foreign university webpage profiles from many aspects.In this way,the author formulates the translation brief and principles on the translation of university webpage profiles.Under the skopos theory and guidance of translation brief,the author finds some inadequacies existing in the translation of university webpage profiles in Xinjiang and offers some conducive suggested solutions to revise them.This paper concludes that due to the lexical,cultural,syntactic,and pragmatic difference in Chinese and English,the translator should focus on the differences during the process of translation.The purpose of translation is to offer target information to target readers.So the translator has to apply proper translation strategies to make the target text appropriate such as omission,annotation,and rewriting.
