With the popularization of the Internet, web page text, being a brand new text type, is attracting various sectors to introduce and promote themselves, such as company, university, hospital even government authority. Among them, university is a place where full of scholars and experts and its quality of English web page is comparatively stable. Thus it is typical to choose university English web profile as the object of the study.Investigation shows that compared with their corresponding Chinese web pages, the existing English ones not only develop slowly but also lag behind in contents. The translated texts are far from satisfactory because most of them are translated form the original text word by word, totally neglecting the skopos and the target readers.This thesis adopts the functionalist translation theory as the theoretical framework and details the relevant theories in order to provide the translator with a solid theoretical foundation. In the following translation errors analysis, subcategories are classified and feasible translation strategies are discussed, aiming to capture more attention and improve the quality of English web page of Chinese universities.There are five chapters in this thesis. Chapter one mainly introduces the background, purpose and significance, methodology and data collection of the study. Chapter two reviews the previous studies on non-literary translation, university webpage translation, the features of webpage text and the deficiencies of university webpage translation. Chapter three illustrates the theoretical framework for webpage translation, that is Functionalist translation theory and its corresponding translation strategies, which put the solid foundation for further analysis. Chapter four is the main focus of the thesis. Under the guidance of parallel text, this part details various translation errors systematically with corresponding translation examples in university webpage; meanwhile, the feasible translation strategies are proposed to deal with pragmatic, cultural, linguistic translation errors effectively. Chapter five is the conclusion of the thesis, which presents the findings and shortage of the study, even some suggestion for further study.The study on webpage text is a comparatively new field in non-literary translation, which is worth exploring. And this study can also give some guidance to the similar texts, so it is the well-combination of theory and practice.
