With more and more attention paid to communication to outside world, Chineseuniversity began to build and develop English website, which usually is Englishtranslation of the Chinese website. This kind of English website has entered intotranslators’ eyesight.There are two versions in university website when you log on: Chinese versionand English version. However, when you search university websites, a long and wordfor word translation would be found in most of them. The readers’ culture backgroundwas not considered.The paragraph studied the profile of university from English websites of eightcommon universities in China(aspect from Hong Kong and Macao), with the paralleltexts the profile of the university of other English speaking countries as reference, theskopos theory as guideline in order to make progresses in the image-building andinternational communication. The thesis emphasized two attributions in theuniversities English website: website form and promotion which made skopos theorya suitable theory. This thesis summed up the translation problems in those eightuniversities. The reason why chose those eight universities as the study samples andthe application of the skopos theory had been stated at the beginning of the thesis. Thethesis emphasized translation problems on the websites and concluded into sixcategories. In the end of the paragraph, author concluded the thesis and gave personalsuggestions toward the profiles of the universities on their English version websites.Through the research of the English websites of eight Chinese inland commonuniversities, the author expects that the thesis could do benefits to image-building anduniversity’s communication and cooperation.
